Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes that combine on-the-job training with bite-size study. The apprentice will have an actual job within the business and be working towards qualifications whilst in the workplace.

Our recruitment team have extensive experience of working with local employers. Their role is to support employers through the apprenticeship process. They can even help you source appropriate young people to fill your apprenticeship vacancy.

Yes, if you would like to up skill your current workforce, this can be done. Existing staff with job roles that match the target Apprenticeship Standard can undertake an Apprenticeship programme. All that is needed is for the employee and employer to sign up to the Apprenticeship programme with us. If you would like more information on this, call our team on 01204 677888.

Intermediate Apprenticeships (Level 2) can vary in duration from 1-2 years depending on the vocation chosen. Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) can vary in duration from 2-4 years depending on the vocation chosen.

Most of the training takes place in the workplace and we provide additional training, support, and assessment. Training at an Alliance Learning centre will depend upon the programme chosen, but typically range from weekly day release to once or twice a month. For some programmes release to a training centre may not be necessary. All training requirements will be agreed with you prior to the start of the programme. As the apprentice develops and matures, the benefits of the training will become apparent in the workplace as the skills and knowledge learnt are put into practice.

To complete an Apprenticeship, the apprentice must be aged 16+ but there is no upper age limit.

We hope that by the end of the Apprenticeship, the Apprentice is highly trained, knows the company well and knows enough to be kept on. This could be progressing onto a higher level Apprenticeship or even filling a role within the company but it is not a requirement that the employer continues the employment of the apprentice.

The current minimum wage rate for an apprentice is £7.55 per hour. This rate applies to apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over that are in their first year. You must pay at least the minimum wage rate for the apprentices' age.

Apprenticeships generally fall into one of four categories:

  • Intermediate Level Apprenticeship – equivalent to five GCSE passes
  • Advanced Level Apprenticeship – equivalent to two A level passes
  • Higher Apprenticeship – can lead to NVQ level 4 and above, or a foundation degree

Alliance Learning provides intermediate level apprenticeships, advanced level apprenticeships and also higher and degree apprenticeships in certain sectors.

The training for the Apprenticeship programme will fall under either Levy or Co-Investment funding.
